Oil Conservation Towards a Healthy and Better Environment
The use of crude oil products for many years has adversely affected our environment. In as much as they have numerous benefits to individuals such as generating revenue and being used as a fuel source among many other benefits, scholars have suggested that its use should be reduced to conserve the environment. Different studies have outlined the effects of the continued use of crude oil products on the environment (National Research Council). For instance, while oil is being transported through the sea, there are always spillages that end up contaminating the water and also killing aquatic life (Farrington 16-31). Moreover, the continued burning of oil products has affected the ozone layer and this has seen a drastic climatic change in different parts of the world over the years National Research Council. As a result of the adverse effects of oil usage, scholars have suggested its conservation and the adoption of new methods to perform the same action (Lai, Cheng, and Tang 6-31). The measures suggested are believed to conserve e environment. Some of the oil conservation measures suggested include the use of solar energy, hydrogen fuel, and wind energy as well as creating awareness on the importance of oil conservation.
Use of Alternative Sources of Energy
To conserve oil in an attempt to have a healthy environment, it is advisable to use other energy sources. This includes using solar power, wind power, biofuels, and hydrogen fuel among many other sources (Moka and Sudheshna 697-712). Solar energy involves deriving energy from the sun by the use of solar panels. The energy that is realized from the solar panels is enough to perform tasks that are performed by oil. Solar energy does not cause greenhouse effects thus it helps conserve the environment (Ramadhan). Wind energy is harnessed from the windmills. This energy source is environmentally friendly as it does not cause pollution to the environment compared to oil energy. Hydrogen fuel is not harmful to the environment as it is a zero-emission fuel. Hydrogen fuel mainly uses hydrogen that is found in water. Biofuels come from vegetable oils, animal fats, and grease (Moka and Sudheshna 697-712). These products are not harmful to the environment (Ramadhan). Generally, the use of this alternative means of energy can help in keeping the environment healthy and in turn conserves the oil in oil reservoirs.
Creating Awareness on The Importance of Oil Conservation Towards Achieving A Healthy Environment
The government should conduct rallies to create awareness among the public about the importance of conserving oil to have a healthy and better environment. The government should educate its citizens on the importance of having a healthy environment (Lai, Cheng, and Tang 6-31). Furthermore, the government should educate its citizens on the importance of conserving oil and the methods they can use to ensure they use oil efficiently. For instance, the government should inform the public of methods of conserving oil domestically such as should consider using pressure cookers rather than using fuel cooking appliances, and ensuring that when cooking in an open pan, a lid should be used so that harmful gases do not pollute the environment (Ramadhan). In addition, they should be informed of the importance of using bags that are reusable for groceries. The government should also consider educating the public who use automobiles for navigation to consider using ways that can help conserve the environment such as informing them to use GPS to find shorter ways thus conserving fuel (Armitage, De Loë, and Plummer 245-255).
Conclusion
In summary, the conservation of oil to create a better environment and prevention of adverse effects is of great importance. One of the oil conservation measures includes the use of the alternatives to energy such as solar energy, hydrogen fuel, and wind energy. Solar energy for instance has zero effect on the environment and thus is considered an adequate source of energy as compared to oil. This is because it provides enough energy to handle the tasks that oil performs. Also, the source of wind energy is from wind and this does not affect the environment at all making it an alternative action to oil. Apart from that energy from biofuels is from plants and thus does not affect the environment. Other than exploring other energy sources, governments should create awareness about the conservation of the environment through the reduction of oil use. The government should prompt its subjects to adopt environmentally friendly measures thus establishing a healthy environment.
