Healthy Habits for A Healthy Life Sample Essay

Visiting a doctor is an agitating activity in itself. One has to search for a good doctor, get an appointment, and pay bills in large amounts for the checkup. There are plenty of things, we can do every day that not only helps to avoid seeing a doctor but also in maintaining good health for the long term.

Firstly, in the present scenario, one must always keep a hand sanitizer in handy, keeping into consideration the corona virus. Since 2019, there has been awareness among the people for hygiene. Not touching the publicly accessible objects like doorknobs and lift buttons unnecessarily, wearing a mask while in crowded areas, and keeping a safe distance from the people are the main things one can do to be safe.

A healthy diet is essential for a healthy lifestyle. A good diet increases the immunity level and helps the human organs to work perfectly. One way to have a very good diet is by knowing the local farmers from whom the fresh fruits and vegetables could be purchased. Fast food must be eluded as much as possible because it contains a significant amount of Carbohydrates and Trans-fat. Vegetables and fruits should be eaten instead as they only contain unsaturated fats which are healthy for humans.

Avoiding smoking and drinking is another important thing to do if one wants to avoid seeing a doctor. Both smoking and drinking could cause serious health issues. Smoking could damage the lungs, cause asthma and even lung cancer, while drinking could introduce problems like nutritional deficiencies, cognitive issues, and damaging the liver.

Proper sleep is another phenomenon that people usually ignore. Most people do not know that good sleep plays a very important role in the health of a person. Sleeping for a reasonable time and at the right time could help maintain physical as well as mental health. Sleep deprivation could cause many health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack, obesity, and lower sex drive. To avoid these problems, adults must have at least seven to eight hours of sleep, whereas teenagers must have eight to ten hours of sleep at least.

Another everyday thing one must do is to practice good hygiene. Good hygiene habits like remembering to brush the teeth, floss, and gargle, wearing clean clothes, and taking regular showers to keep the bacterial infections away from the person. These habits could decrease the risk for the diseases like viral infections, cough, and flu among many others. The habit of good hygiene will not only help in maintaining good health, but it also helps in making a person look good, which gives a very good impression to whomever that person interacts with.

Regular exercise is one of the most important things when it comes to staying healthy. Even mild exercise for a long time could help in making a person healthy. With physical exercise, one must also keep in check the Body Mass Index (BMI), through which a person could keep a track of his weight and keep the weight within a healthy limit. Exercise and controlled weight keep the person away from cardiovascular diseases, give strength to bones and muscles, and improve mental health as well.

Personal leisure time is a must when it comes to mental health. Escaping the daily hustle and bustle for entertainment purposes keeps the mind fresh. It could be watching a movie, bowling, or any other activity a person likes. It helps in managing the work stress through which depression or anxiety could be reduced. Leisure does not always mean playing time. It could also mean helping someone, volunteering in any social cause, or anything that could make a person happy and helps him in escaping worries.

Moreover, knowledge about first aid is very important if a person wants to avoid seeing a doctor. It is normal for everybody to have a few scratches and bumps now and then. But it does not mean that one has to rush to the hospital. With the knowledge of giving first aid, one can easily help himself and his family if they have minor health issues, even if it means comforting the patient or preventing the situation from getting worse.

Lastly, every person must respect the age recommendations in daily activities. Whether it is a physical or mental activity, it should be done only if it is suitable for people of that age. Watching an 18+ rated movie that has violence in it is not suitable for a school-going kid, as it may affect his mentality in the wrong way. Similarly, an old man must not play rugby as he will surely get injured.

As described above, all the daily activities provide health benefits if done in the right way. If a person makes a habit of these activities, it could be expected that he or she will live a long and healthy life. It is also very easy to adopt these habits as one will not have to go out of the way to perform them. Instead, one has to keep doing what he or she is doing but has to do it the right way. These everyday activities will help in avoiding many health problems like heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, mental health issues, and whatnot; consequently, a person could avoid seeing a doctor.
