United We Stand Divided We Fall
"United we stand, divided we fall" is commonly used in a variety of slogans, most frequently to inspire cooperation and unity. This famous quote from C.W. McCallister's song of the same title is also a popular motto by those who value individualism, as it encourages citizens to work together despite cultural and economic differences.
Although many political pundits would have you believe that the United States is somehow a melting pot, the truth is that we are a country of individuals with common roots, a culture, and a history. Each and every one of us has our own values, dreams, and ambitions. We do not aim to divide people or push them into a corner. Rather, by uniting through unity, we can help move this great nation forward.
There are a number of ways that we can improve the standing of our nation. We can become a more tolerant and understanding society. More importantly, we can allow others to have their personal beliefs just like we do. Our tax dollars need not be used to support religious organizations, contrary to popular belief. In fact, tax deductions for individuals who choose to lead religious groups in public life can prove to be an important step in growing a more tolerant and inclusive nation.
While we are all made equal in the eyes of God, there are those who believe that we still have room to grow. One way we can grow is by uniting ourselves with other like-minded individuals. Being true to ourselves is the beginning of creating a more perfect country. True leaders who recognize themselves in the greatness of their fellow men always stand tall and proud.
The time has come for each of us to make some decisions. We know there is more out there than we could possibly understand. What we do know is that we have a tremendous opportunity to reach a much greater level of unity. It starts within each one of us. Each individual can begin by asking themselves honestly if they have what it takes to stand up and claim their right to live peacefully and respectfully among others.
It's time we asked each other the tough questions. If we are going to be true to ourselves, to our fellow man, then we would have to do some soul searching to discover who we really are and if we are ready to embrace unity within ourselves. Would being part of a group make you feel more peaceful and tolerant?
When we step forward and declare our love for each other, we begin to walk the journey toward peace. We begin to respect each other and learn to look deep into the minds of others before we judge them. Nations cannot survive when their people are polarized. Love and unity will heal the divisions. As people begin to love each other and find healing in that process, we will find that our government will also thrive.
As people begin to stand united it will create a sense of safety and security for each other. We will no longer be divided by lines that demarcate lines of difference. Instead, we will be able to work together with complete confidence in knowing that no matter where our paths lead us we will always arrive safely at the same destination. That is a great benefit of loving one another. I hope you will give it a try.
As our elected leaders push us towards political division we can take a cue from the United States military. Those who have served understand that staying united is not a choice, it is a necessity. Being part of a team of brothers and sisters who love one another will create a stronger union than any of us could have dreamed possible.
There is nothing more powerful than the example our family can set. If each of us could be united in our hearts and minds, we could do wonderful things. Imagine what our
children could accomplish if they were happy and healthy. The strength of that love would transform their lives.
In the United States, it is not about who is right or wrong, it is about the fact that we get along and that we love each other. It is about respecting each other's choices and opinions. When we work together, we show the world that love really is the most important attitude to live by.
