Summer Vacation
What does summer vacation mean to you? Summer vacation has many different meanings for everyone. Each meaning is going to be different for each individual. According to the Cambridge dictionary, summer vacation means during the summer and is a time when students from elementary/high school are not in attendance. Their summer break normally ranges from 8 to 9 weeks long. Not to mention their time away from school however, it also means no homework and zero academic work. Who doesn’t love that break?
Awe, relaxation. Summer vacation means time to relax for individuals that can take off from work or for those that don’t need to attend school. Summer vacation is a time to change the everyday routine a bit. Even if the individual cannot take time off from work there are still the weekends that time can be spent outside late nights listening to the crackling sound as you sit around an open fire. Sitting in the quietness and listening to the crickets singing their favorite song throughout the night air.
Feel like having a lazy night? Time to take a drive into the still darkness of the forest around mid-July to park with the lights off and watch the beautiful light show the fireflies present. There are those lucky individuals that don’t have a curfew and to top it off they don’t have to get up early. How can they be so lucky to stay up late and get to sleep in? Yes, they are lucky!
Summer vacation is a time to live life to the extreme, there isn’t any time to slow down, it doesn’t last long. Summer vacation is the time to make memories. Vacations don’t have to occur by leaving the state and spending lots of money. Vacations don’t have to be amusement parks either. Summer vacation is your time, spending time the way you want to spend it.
Summer vacation is spending time at the beach, enjoying the sand in between their toes. Enjoying the sunshine beating down upon them with their feet in the water and listening to the crashing sounds of the waves, the seagulls squawking away. Maybe even picking up some seashells from the seashore late in the evening or early morning and watching the beautiful sunsets or sunrises that nature makes for us to enjoy.
Summer vacation is camping and enjoying nature to its fullest by living off the land, true camping living in a tent, hunting for their food, drinking water from a stream. Cooking food over a fire including some smores. Smores cannot be forgotten about no matter what type of camping is done. Stop and think about it, no internet or phone only the wilderness. Only the birds singing their wake-up songs, the crackling steps of the deer late night or early morning. Just imagine listening to the water flowing downstream and falling asleep to the crickets. No neighbors to bother you or wake you up with their morning lawn mower or weed eater. Sounds fantastic to me.
Then there is another type of camping that most call glamping where they stay in a cabin and they have the everyday necessities such as stove, refrigerator, running water and electricity. The campgrounds have all kinds of entertainment for adults and children of all ages. Cooking can still be done over an open fire and if it rains cooking can be completed inside. The best of both worlds with glamping.
Summer vacation for some means riding their four-wheelers out in the country in the rain or shine. In return summer vacation can mean a few broken bones to remember the summer vacation by. Some families may go out onto a lake and do some fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, or just lounge around on a lazy river and float around on a tube. Swimming or floating around with a life jacket may even be an option for some people to enjoy.
Summer vacation can be packed full of picnic’s which means lots of food and desserts. On occasions, you might be lucky to see those wonderful colorful explosions in the sky called fireworks. If you’re lucky enough you might be able to find a spot where the fireworks are set off right above you, what a beautiful experience that is.
For some, summer vacation might be the only time relatives from afar visit. The only time they may have to time together besides long distant phone calls or zoom meetings. There is nothing better than spending time with others in person and being able to speak to them face to face.
Summer vacation isn’t about where you go, summer vacation is about enjoying whatever it is you do and spending time with friends and family. Creating memories that can be remembered for years to come that everyone has enjoyed. Spending time together with others while you can because the rest of the year adults are working, children and teens are in school and there is a non-stop hustle. Time spent together means more than anything. Friends and family will always remember the laughter and those hot summer nights spent together.
Enjoy the summer vacations, whatever it is that you do while you can because one day you might not be able to.
