Holistic grading is used to establish scoring of standard based tests. It can also be used to assess classroom-based work, Rather than counting errors, a paper is judged holistically if it has too many or too few errors to merit a 1, 2 or 3, compared to an anchor paper, or if it meets a writing standard.

Steps To Writing A Holistic Essay

  1. Organize your ideas to support a well-focused argument. Ensure that you have an opening and closing to your essay that is appealing enough. Display a reasonable progression of ideas from beginning to end in a good manner. In case you have done a lot of analysis, you may want to stretch your capabilities and knowledge and take a compositional risk. If you apply this properly, you will receive a 6 or 5 if your attempts are not that ideal. Use details that support your main idea or thesis statement for your work to look organized. Have enough details, which support your points.
  2. Ensure that your work is grammatically correct with good constructed sentences. Observe if pronoun and Subject-verb are in agreement and pronoun. Avoid errors and mistakes for you to achieve a grade of 6 or above. Seek help from your teacher to see if can use certain words that you are not completely sure about.
  3. To achieve a high score use various sentence construction structures that are acceptable in academics. Do not just use the same sentence structure throughout. For you to achieve a 5 or 6 score, use sentences which are varied in type, structure and length.
  4. Finally go through your essay to check out any technicalities errors like spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Write the first draft if you have enough time to do your essay.  Take some time before you revisit your draft then write your final copy.
