How To Find A Catchy Title For Your Paper

How To Make A Catchy Title For An Essay

For most students, finding the best titles for their papers and essays is too hard. Below are some guidelines to help you come up with a catchy title for your papers and essays.

  • Write your essay first: it is very difficult to sum up what the essay is all about unless you have already written at least an outline for it. However, since essays often turn out differently than you plan, it is best to save the title for the very last.
  • Determine your essays theme: titles are designed to let readers anticipate whether they are interested in the content of the work. This means that your title should be specific enough to prepare your reader for your argument.
  • Determine your audience: you should have done this when writing your essay but think again about your audience when deciding on your title. Your title may change depending on the audience.
  • Re-read your essay to find choice language: you might be able to find a word or phrase in your essay that both capture your thesis and the imagination of your audience. The concluding paragraph for example, should already have done the heavy lifting in terms of condensing the main points of the paper. Borrowing a phrase from the conclusion to use it as your title will give your essay a nice effect providing the reader with a sense of closure.
  • Consider incorporating an important phrase from your source material: if the author of the book, play or other works that you are referencing has already said it better than you ever could, go ahead and use a quoted fragment in your title. However, make sure to modify the quote so that the purpose of your essay still comes through.
